With a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and post-doctoral work in Molecular Biology, he brings to his practice impeccable academic credentials, a lifelong passion for scientific discovery, and a firsthand understanding of how scientists think and work.

Working with leading universities, research institutions, startups, and large companies, Bob leverages his extensive scientific and technical experience to advise clients on biological therapeutics, receptors, transport, cell signaling, diagnostic and prognostic markers and techniques, genomics, proteomics, transgenic and recombinant organisms, analytic techniques, and recombinant DNA products and procedures.
Bob has prosecuted thousands of patents for a wide range of biotechnology breakthroughs. He has particular experience working on portfolios involving complex, multipart inventions and prosecuting patents that will capture a myriad of potential applications in the marketplace. Bob knows not only how to build protections for his clients’ intellectual property, but also how to remove the obstacles that can stand in their way. Overall, he is dedicated to delivering patent prosecution advice at the highest level of sophistication and with the ultimate goal of enforceability.
Bob has appeared before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in both ex parte and inter partes proceedings, including appeal hearings and interference hearings. He has served as lead counsel in biotech interferences and regularly partners with patent litigation teams as a key advisor on the technical issues at stake in an intellectual property dispute. As a former USPTO patent examiner, he brings tremendous insights into how to work with the patent office and execute a successful patent prosecution strategy.
In addition to providing counsel on U.S.-based patent portfolios, Bob helps clients solve their global patent challenges. He has a strong command of the rapidly changing international landscape for patent law and provides critical counsel to clients on the opportunities and limitations of prosecuting patents in different legal systems.
