Adam has dedicated the last decade of his career to helping clients ranging from early-stage startups to the nation’s most prestigious research institutions advance their latest discoveries into protectable, and commercially viable, platform technologies.  
 
Adam’s strong relationships with university administrators, inventors and researchers of this caliber is built upon a reputation for first deeply understanding their research and then distilling the complex science into the proper and effective legal framework for broad patent protection.   
 
Adam’s path to counseling clients included earning a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Notre Dame and a Ph.D. in biochemistry, cell and developmental biology from Emory University. In addition, he earned a law degree, magna cum laude, while studying at night and simultaneously working as a patent agent for the firm. His technical experience includes hands-on work with a variety of genetic models such as C. elegans, S. cerevisiae, genetically modified mice, primary and immortalized mammalian cells, and diverse laboratory tools and techniques in biochemistry, cell, and molecular biology.  This broad foundation allows him to quickly and capably grasp cutting-edge discoveries across a range of biotechnologies and particularly those in the areas of protein- and nucleic acid-based therapies, gene editing technologies, and immunology.  
 
Adam has the additional perspective of having worked in-house with Emory University’s office of technology transfer, which sharpened his ability to guide clients transitioning early-stage discoveries out of the laboratory into the market.  He is passionate about the science behind his clients’ inventions and driven by their potential impact on human health.
 
Throughout the life cycle of his work with a client, Adam will draft and prosecute complex patent applications in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and correspond with associates worldwide to guide the prosecution of related foreign applications.  He also counsels clients on inventorship, ownership, patent infringement and validity, and freedom to operate.  Adam has extensive experience in designing and navigating complex portfolio strategies and assisting in due diligence of both clients’ existing assets and those targeted for potential licensing or purchase, which pays dividends in maximizing their commercial potential.
